Prof. Dr Slavko Carić – Curriculum Vitae
Slavko Carić was born on July 6 the 1936. in Odzaci, Vojvodina, Serbia. After the war was over, he finished elementary school and high school in Novi Sad with highest grades in 1955. In 1959 he graduated from the Faculty of Law in Belgrade with highest honors. During the course of his studies, he was a very active member of many youth and student organizations. He earned a PhD degree on the Faculty of Law in Belgrade in 1964. Immediately after he graduated Law in 1959, he was made a teaching assistant on the Belgrade Faculty of Law, as a part of a special scholarship for scientific work, granted by the Serbian government at the time. Dr Slavko Carić was a part of the University in Novi Sad since the year 1960. First he was a teaching assistant, then in 1965 he was promoted into a university lecturer, and he became a professor in 1969. Since 1974. he was a full time professor of the Faculty of Law in Novi Sad. Prof. Dr Slavko Carić was chief of the Department of Commercial Law, and he managed the postgraduate studies in commercial law. He was married and a father of two. Prof. Dr Slavko Carić was a highly esteemed scientific contributor in the field of commercial law, not only in his own country, but abroad as well. He authored many books, discussions and articles regarding this particular field of law. Special significance is given to his work on the encyclopedias (Encyclopedia of Law, Encyclopedia of Economy). In the last 25 years, Professor Caric was the head of a large number of scientific projects. On several occasions he spent time abroad furthering his expertise. In 1963 and 1969 he spent several months in UK, Switzerland and Austria. Since the year 1970 he was funded by Humboldt University to spend over 2 years in Germany. He was a participant of over 80 scientific congresses, 20 of which were abroad. Prof. Dr Slavko Carić made an exceptional contribution in bringing up new scientific contributors. He was a mentor on many papers and doctoral dissertations. In April 1996 he was made a full member of Serbian Scientific Association. For over 30 years Professor Caric arbitrated many foreign-trade cases and disputes in Yugoslavian as well as foreign arbitrages (Vienna, Zurich, and Frankfurt). At the same time he participated in creating many legal acts here. He had two terms as a dean of Faculty of Law in Novi Sad, two terms as a vice-chancellor of the University in Novi Sad, and spent over 8 years as a director of the Institute for Commercial Law and Economy, on the Faculty of Law in Novi Sad. For his work, Prof. Dr Slavko Carić was honored twice, and received a large number of recognitions for his work, here and abroad. In the year 2000, Prof. Dr Slavko Carić founded Business Academy as an independent and private University in Novi Sad, which was made up of three faculties in the beginning: Faculty of Law, Faculty of Foreign Trade, and Directors Faculty. Later Management Faculty in Novi Sad, Faculty of Stomatology in Pancevo and Faculty of Sport and Tourism in Novi Sad join the academy. After the „victory“ of democracy in 2000. the Scientific Council of Novi Sad University, with the consent of the authorized state ministry, selected Professor Carić to be the acting rector of the Novi Sad University, and Faculty of Law made him acting dean. For over 17 years Prof. Dr Slavko Carić organized the Natural Law school on Kopaonik. In addition to regular postgraduate courses, Business Academy led by Professor Caric became more and more relevant publisher of books dealing with legal theory and practice, and organized many symposiums. Prof. Dr Slavko Carić was president of Yugoslav Association for Theory and Practice in Commercial Law and International Commercial Law, president of County Law Association, and president of Serbian Law Association. Prof. Dr Slavko Carić passed away in February 2006. |
