THE FACULTY OF LAW IN A BOLOGNA PROCESS
The Faculty of Law in Novi Sad made new study programmes according to Bologna Declaration demands, which was signed by ministries of the European Union countries on 19th June 1999, and to which Serbia joined in 2003. Those programmes were created on the ground of the following legal acts: The Law of High Education and The Law of Research Work.
The aim of the European Union is forming the European zone of high education till 2010, which considers making some reforms in the educational system such as: introducing the united system of points (ECTS - the European Credit Transfer System), establishing the relevance of study programmes taking into account national needs and market demands, efficiency increase, providing quality through introducing the accrediting system of both curriculums and institutions themselves, evaluation of curriculums, professors and institutions and, as the most important thing, including students, who are in the centre of the educational process, as partners in this process. During reforms there should be equalized and harmonized academic degrees (diploma, master, doctoral), which can be achieved by introducing the ECTS (the European Credit Transfer System). The ECTS system is based on points expressing a student`s burden in overcoming a specific study programme. The ECTS points (or credits) represent a key element of judging the whole students` burden in the process of overcoming a study programme, where one academic year brings 60 points, and one semester brings 30 points.
The greatest attention is paid to the evaluation of students during the realization of the educational process. In distinction from the old way of studying, an active participation in the teaching process is a basic criterion for the evaluation of the whole students work during an academic year. The exam and giving a mark represent the end of the systematic testing the students and their capabilities, because of which the constant presence and active participation in the teaching process are of the greatest importance. Evaluation of students is measured by students` successfulness in mastering a particular subject, it is continually followed during the teaching process and expressed through points. By fulfilling pre-examined duties and passing the exam, a student can gain at most 100 points. By a study programme there is established a proportion of points gained during the pre-examined duties as well as at the exam, by which pre-examined duties bring at least 30 points, and at most 70 points. During an academic year, there is conducted the evaluation of students which means that students evaluate professors` work, studying conditions, the quality of the teaching process, the content of specific courses etc. concerning the previous semester.
Diploma Supplement is a document which is gratis given together with a diploma by the Faculty, in which, besides a student`s personal data, there is also a list of courses the student finished, the names of professors, a list of scientific fields being done during each course, as well as some extra activities a student had during an academic year, and which are not necessarily connected with the teaching process itself.
